COVID-19 and Difficult Times

Update for 2021: The situation, of course, remains the same, and in many parts of the country, it’s even worse. However, we still hold out hope that the increase in vaccine availability, and the cooperation of the public in controlling the spread of the virus, will eventually allow our educational events to resume some time this year. Thus, we have published, with lots of question marks interspersed, a hopeful events schedule for 2021. Whether or not we can make this hope a reality depends on many factors. In the meantime, please read last year’s post, below, and if you can find it in your heart to send a donation to help make up a little of the financial support for our animals that would normally come through our live events, we thank you.

Dear Friends,

As everyone knows, COVID-19 has changed life, probably for a very long time, in New York State (and the rest of the world). As a result, we are having to cancel all of our public events. This will be until further notice, but as of right now it appears to mean we might not have an event season in 2020 at all. We all hope we can get back on track, of course, and will update you as information is known.

This not only makes us sad, because we so enjoy meeting all of you as we travel around with the Wildlife Wagon, it also puts NYWRC in a very difficult situation.

A large portion of our funding comes in through those events. We still have dozens and dozens of non-releasable wildlife and rescued animals to feed and care for. Without those funds, this is going to be very difficult to do.

Our animals need your help.

We understand that times are hard right now, and a lot of people have nothing to give. However, if you do have the resources, please donate to our cause. The situation we’re facing this year is unprecedented and was certainly unpredictable. If you can reach into your heart, and click the DONATE button on the website, or send a check to PO Box 410, Middleburgh, NY 12122, we will be eternally grateful.

Also, one of our volunteers has created a Facebook Fundraiser for their birthday this year. If you are on Facebook, and prefer to donate that way, please visit our Facebook page, where the fundraiser has been shared.

With gratitude,

Wes Laraway, director
and all of us at NYWRC/NELR

Oscar, one of our resident Bobcats
